Configuration management for vehicle development and production: smart, central and digital

We support the world's largest automotive manufacturer in the development of digital configuration management in vehicle development and production.

Until now, control units in vehicles were self-contained components - each with a single function and task. Control is bundled in the new generation of vehicles: A new generation of centralised control units is now responsible for all functions in the vehicle. As a result, the complete configuration management for the electronics of the vehicle had to be reinitialised.

The challenge was not only to be able to configure a completely new IT system landscape with significantly more complex internal dependencies, but also to ensure that the configurations remain maintainable. Everything at a glance: Function-oriented view visible to everyone

The whole thing looks like this in detail: The new configuration management enables the vehicle Project Managers to create so-called “baselines” - statuses of all control units for a vehicle product. These statuses (actual / planned) are viewed and evaluated digitally by the Project Managers in technical development. Third-party systems also have an insight into the digital statuses.

With the new configuration management, a function-oriented view of the vehicle product is possible: This is important with regard to the centralised control, because functions of the vehicle such as flashing, measuring of the outside temperature, braking, etc. can be assigned to the vehicle configuration elements - the (virtual) control units and the software components.
